What Should you consider before buying a low 49cc scooter?

When starting out on a scooter, or choosing one for a younger person, the power of the scooter you choose is probably the most important consideration you have to make. The power of a scooter engine is measured in cubic centimeters, called cc.The basic rule of thumb is, the higher the cc, the more powerful the engine, and thus, the faster it can travel. Lower HP scooters are great for beginners and younger riders as they give the authentic feel without the danger of the power and speed.

But it would be remiss to say that higher cc bikes are only suitable for adults. Truthfully, the weight of the rider also plays a big role as a larger person may not be able to get the same top speeds out of a low-HP bike that a smaller person would. It is important to keep the size of the rider in mind as well.

Low-powered scooters, on a flat stable surface, can reach upwards of 40 MPH, which is suitable for a wide range of daily driving needs for most people who live in cities. They do lack power, so the power limits of this motor should be duly noted.

This is not the type of scooter you want for hilly areas or to carry heavy loads; these vehicles are made for lighter people and the more weight you put on them, the less efficiently they run, and the slower they go. Case in point, a low HP scooter is not the vehicle you want if you plan to have passengers.

These scooters are best for pleasure riding or short commutes, and make great modes of transportation for those shorter trips. They are efficient vehicles that can go quite a way on a tank of gas.

You want to consider the ergonomics of the scooter as well. Does the handlebar placement feel natural and comfortable to you? Is the seat wide enough? Will you be able to ride comfortably on said scooter? These are things you will need to determine in order to make the best choice for your wants, needs, and budget.

It is also important to note that in many places, there are training and licensing requirements to legally operate even a low-HP scooter. Be sure to check your local laws and regulations to ensure that you have successfully complied with all rules and regulations associated with legal operation of a scooter. You do not have to have a license in every locale, but many of them do require or at least strongly recommend a basic safety training course.

Decks come in a wide range of options that include varied length, width, construction materials, and even different grades of concavity.

In addition to these elements of consideration, you must also choose between scooters with an integrated or non-integrated headset. An integrated headset comes ready to use, the bearing and headset come already installed on the deck.

Conversely, non-integrated headsets are those where the headset and bearings are sold separately; this allows the rider to customize these elements of the scooter as well.

Parents who have children who are interested in scooter riding or other outdoor pursuits should rejoice since many find it difficult to get their kids out of the house. One of the biggest things you will need to take into consideration is the safety of your child. Elbow pads can prevent 82% of elbow injuries, and knee pads can prevent 32% of knee injuries; these statistics show just how vital and effective the proper safety gear is.

You want to look for scooter pads that are well designed and comfortable while in use, otherwise you child is not likely to actually wear the pads; the pads do little if not worn. This means that comfort and good fit are of prime concern, as well as the durability of the materials used in the construction of the pads.

Micro Mini Kick scooter Review (By MICRO KICKBOARD)

Our #1st Pick for toddlers  (For Boys and Girls)

With T-Bar Only

Bundle 3-1

Editor's Rating  - 94%

Brand: Micro Kickboard.

Ages Recommended:2-5 years.

Max rider's weight: it can support a 44 pound rider.

Colors:Pink, Purple, Blue, Red, Aqua, Green, Orange.

Wheels:  Three Wheel Scooter.

Deck:  low for smooth riding.
 Handlebar: Fixed T-Bar.

Amazon Rating: 4.8/5 out of 600 reviews.

Pros & Cons

Pros:

  • It is by far, the top rated kick scooter for toddlers on the most popular marketplaces (Ebay, amazon, etc).
  • It comes in different colors for boys and girls (pink, purple, red, green, blue, aqua).
  • Deck is low-to-the-ground to easily get up and down from it.
  • Safe to use! Your kid will not scrape their ankles as with the 3 wheel Razor Jr. lil
  • Ideal for 2,3,4,5 years old.
  • Sturdy and well build. The materials are top quality.
  • Durable.
  • Every Part is replaceable, so if any part breaks, you can buy that single part and you are done.
  • It is stable with its 2 wheels on the front and 1 on the back.
  • Bundle optional: You have the option to buy the O-Bar (3 in 1) Version. With this version you have the options to use it with the T-Bar, and O-Bar (ideal for turning with ease). With the O-Bar your kid can also be seated. You can get the Micro Mini O-Bar (3 in 1) HERE!

Cons:

  • It can't be folded
  • It is a more expensive than the rest of the toddler kick scooters. They start at 79$ and if you buy the bundle option, it costs more than 119$, but it is worth every penny it costs because your kids will use every day and you will not have any trouble with it.

I needed a kick scooter for my son and I started my research...
My 3 year old son and I have been looking for kick scooters and one seller at Toys R Us  suggested buying the micro mini scooter for his age, because it was simply the "best one" for his age. Although I am always skeptical about seller's recommendations because they always want you to buy, no matter what, he was definitely right about this one.  My kid used it while he was in the store and wanted to take it. He used it without any problem and it seemed safe and fun, but I thought it was not the right moment to buy before reading further information online. So we left it in the store without buying, but I wrote the price, brand and model in a notebook. So, first thing I did was to check online . I found out that the Mini Micro is an award winning scooter for preschoolers and that Its innovative design has all the features needed for beginners whose parents take safety seriously. I also found out that on Amazon and Ebay, it was the scooter with the best ratings, even better than any Razor, which was a little surprising (and there are no Razor Scooters in the range of 2-5 years old with good ratings!). After a week of checking and asking some questions to buyers and also checking the parks and watching what the kids were using (found many using the mini and maxi micro), I decided to get my son what he wanted. I bought it in blue, because he loves that color.

And we finally bought the Scooter...
We bought it for under 80 bucks, which was a little more expensive than average. One month after buying it, these are the comments I want to share with my readers:

  • It is really easy to assemble (in less than a minute).
  • Extremely easy to use.
  • He did not have problems learning how to use. The learning curve is short.
  • It is durable: unlike radio flyer and Razor jr., this one is well made with good materials.
  • The 2 wheels on the front and 1 on the back combined with the lean and steer action ensures safety and stability for young children. It enables them to learn to use their body weight and balance to steer.Since the deck is low to the ground, it is easy to kick from and they are not so high when they fall.Your preschooler's balance and coordination and skills will be developed as they quickly become proficient scooter riders.
  • If your kid is close to the weight limit (44 pounds), I suggest you get the Micro Maxi instead. My kid was close to 40 pounds by the time we bought it so I could definately purchased the Maxi. If your toddler is big, try the Maxi and save money by not buying two scooters.
  • The deck is long enough to comfortably put both feet on it. It is wider than any other kick scooter of this type (5" ).
  • Easy to scoot, with its solid deck.
  • My son did not get injured (not even a scratch or scrape).Easy lean turn mechanism specially made for toddlers.
  • Lightweight: although it doesn't fold, it is easy to take the t-bar off and transport it.

CONCLUSION

In my humble opinion, after watching my son enjoy riding safely hours and hours with this scooter, I think that you will not regret buying it for toddlers of age 3 to 5. And the maxi micro if your kid is 5-7 years or a bigger kid. And the 3-1 bundle  if your kid is 2 years old and needs some help to start to ride with the T-bar. Be careful about the size, because you want to make sure that you don't have to buy two scooters. Make sure your kid is not close to the weight limit (44 pounds) and if it is, buy directly the maxi micro so you save some money. If your kid is big(although he might be 3 years old), I suggest you start with the Maxi micro because it is nonsense to buy something that he might use a couple of times before they have to replace it for the bigger one. Also, if you think this is too expensive for you, I suggest you take a look at the Vokul mini scooter, which is really good as well, and it is a little less expensive (aprox. 55 bucks).

NOTE:   This is our 1st pick for toddlers (age 2,3,4,5 ).

Is the Razor Jr. Lil’ Kick Scooter a “safe”scooter for toodlers? http://allbikingstuff.com/is-the-razor-jr-lil-kick-scooter-a-good-scooter-for-toodlers/ http://allbikingstuff.com/is-the-razor-jr-lil-kick-scooter-a-good-scooter-for-toodlers/#respond Tue, 09 Aug 2016 14:03:45 +0000 http://allbikingstuff.com/?p=1943

Razor Jr. Lil’ scooter for boys and girls

Finally, the little ones can have a Razor ride for their own. The Lil’ Kick’s three-wheel design has been made for a more stable ride specially made for toddlers. The extra-wide, slip-resistant deck keeps kids on their little toes.

For the sake of making mother's kids care an easier job, sometimes it's good to let them play around like the older kids. With this easy to use scooter, specially designed for younger kids (toddlers from 3 and older), they'll feel like part of the gang. A three-wheel system with large, tough wheels allows more stability while still offering the fun of a scooter style ride. A handle bar pad and slip resistant deck will prevent injury where other scooters might prove dangerous.

Overall:  There have been problems lately with this scooter because some customers indicated that their kids had ankle injuries while using it because there is a problem with its design that makes the 2 wheels on the back scrape the ankles. We suggest you buy for your kid one with the 2 wheels on the front instead. WE STRONGLY SUGGEST YOU BUY YOUR KIDS INSTEAD "THE MICRO MINI KICK SCOOTER" HERE!!!

Razor Jr. Lil' Kick Scooter

 Razor Jr. Lil  - 78%

Price: From 25$.

Brand: Razor.

Ages Recommended: 3-5 years.

Max rider's weight: it can support a 40 pound rider.

Colors:Pink, Blue.

Wheels:  Three Wheel Scooter.

Deck  low for smooth riding.
 Handlebar: Fixed.

Amazon Rating: 4.1/5 out of 881 reviews.

Pros & Cons

Pros:

  • It is one of the few scooters for toddlers you can find online .
  • It comes in pink and blue, for boys and girls alike.
  • It is cheap (less than 25 bucks) and can represent a nice gift for your kid.
  • It is easy to use.
  • Ideal for 2,3,4 years old.
  • Sturdy and well build.
  • It is stable with its 3 wheels.

Cons:

  • Some reviewers have complained about the 2 wheels on the back being in the wrong place and scraping kid's ankles
  • The latest customer reviews indicate that the issue with the two wheels on the back that hurt the ankle and scrape is a major issue that we cannot skip. Thus, we suggest you get the MICRO MINI SCOOTER instead, which is more expensive, but it is safer and hassle free.

CONCLUSION

We believed that this toddler scooter was one of the best choices for kids of 2+ age because it was made by a reputable company as Razor and because it is sturdy and well built. However, we realized that a lot of buyers complain about the same issue: the 2  wheels on the back, which will scrape your kid's ankles and will seriously injure your kids. For us, safety is a critical issue when we evaluate and rate a scooter, so we could not recommend this one.  Although some people seem happy with the purchase and did not have any issue with it, we can't forget that there are lots of people complaining about their kids having hurt with it. So instead of buying this scooter, we recommend you get for 79 bucks the MICRO MINI SCOOTER. We strongly recommend it because it is safe, fun, well built and it has more than 4.8/5 customer satisfaction online .

This is a girls electric scooter!

PROS:

  • It has good overall acceptance in different marketplaces. It hasn't been sold to many customers, though.
  • Made by pulse performance.
  • It is the first electric scooter your kid will ever ride, because they can start using it at the age of 3. Although the manufacturer suggests to use the scooter on kids of more than 5 years, many people have been buying it for kids under that age with a lot of success.
  • It is easy to ride, and the vehicle is sturdy enough to support their careless use.

  • It is stable (3 wheel-scooters are more stable), sturdy, well built and turns well.
  • It is an alternative to the E100, for kids older than 8 years, but it is as easy to ride that even a 6 year old can ride it with ease.
  • The battery is the same as in the rest of the E Razor models, which last 40 minutes of use.

  • Tires are too low to the ground, made of plastic which is not that great, and they could be bigger.

What are the key points to consider when buying an electric scooter?

  • Age: You need to consider that the scooter fits the age range of your interest. You need to be careful to buy a scooter that was made for the age of the kid who will use it. In the bike specifications you will find the minimun and maximun age that the vehicle can be best used for. And also read amazon reviews on the product to see how they really worked out for real users who bought it. In most cases, the brand tells you that your kid can use it when he turns a certain age, but they do not consider that the kid can be bigger than average or skillful/agile or the other way round. So it is better if your kid first rides the scooter before you buy it. Just to be sure.
  • Brand:  There are really good brands out there that we know we can trust. One of them is Razor!  You need to be careful not to buy from unknown brands that haven't been tested by many users, because you can end up buying a defective product that you would need to throw away after your kid uses it for a short period of time. Be careful not to be tempted by low prices, nice pictures and feature rich products that do not meet the quality a branded product has. Do your homework and read customer reviews! You don't want to be the first tester either. Wait until the product is established before you buy it.
  • Battery Life for Electric scooters:  If you are planning on buying an electric vehicle, this is one of the most crucial variables to take into account.  The battery life is how long your scooter or bike can be used for without charging it again. The longer the battery life the better. However, you should also pay attention at user reviews on amazon, because sometimes the battery life that is indicated by the manufacturer is way higher than the real one or the other way. And also, be careful buying a product which has a non branded battery that does not meet the quality standards. For example, Razor uses batteries with  UL 2272 Certification.
  • Safety: Many people disparage the importance of safety because they are excited about buying one of these funny products. However, if you want to buy one of these for your kids or even for  yourself, you need to know that some of them go really fast and they can be dangerous if they are ridden by careless individuals or novice riders who do not know what they are doing. Be careful not to buy a weapon to your kid and read and get informed before you buy any of these vehicles.  AVOID ACCIDENTS!
  • Price:  This is of course what people are more interested in. We all want a scooter or a bike, but not everyone has the money to get the most expensive models. Thus, it is important to know what is your budget and how much are you willing to spend in your kid or yourself for a scooter. Electric scooters  can be really expensive while manual kick scooters are a lot cheaper.
  • Size: This is another aspect to consider. The dimensions of a bike or scooter are important, especially if you live in a tiny home without any space to store it. In case you don't have much space for your bike, an important aspect to consider is whether or not it is foldable. Folding bikes are becoming popular in the last few years because of the lack of space in big cities and the advantage of them for transportation purposes, since they can be folded so you can take them to buses, trains, taxies or any other public tranportation.
  • Speed: When you buy an electric or gas powered vehicle (either scooter or bike), another thing to watch out is the maximun speed. For kids, the speed has its limit (about 15mph on all Razor scooters). However, for adult bikes, we all seem to buy the ones that run the highest.
  • Tires: It is another feature to analyze in scooters and bikes. For scooters, the ones made of rubber and of the largest size seem to work better than the plastic ones which do not run as smooth and clear. For ebikes, it depends on where would you use it: if used on pavement you do not need a very big fat tire, but if you want to ride it on dirty surfaces and on mountains, it is recommended to get one of those new fat tires.  For dirt bikes, tires are even more important than for scooters as dirt bikes will be ridden on hard surfaces and the need for a good tire to support its use.

Conclusion

This list has been made with the idea in mind of helping you decide what scooter to buy your son or daughter. In the list you have scooters for all ages starting at 2 years old to older teens of 16+.  We ordered our top 20 list based on different factors, but we paid special attention to  the ones with the highest number of reviews on Amazon, because we thought that it is one of the most accurate ways to measure what scooter deserves to be in the list and in which position. Besides amazon feedback, we  considered the following features to decide which scooters to add to the list: Safety, Value for the money, type, size, material, battery, brakes, amazon feedback, colors available, time on market, brand recognition. However, we made the list without separating the age, the kid's personality, use and skills (for example, if the kid is a fearful kind, we won't suggest the fastest scooter in the list). Also, you need to check the scooter kid's age range and the type of scooter you are searching for and probably out of 20 suggestions you will end up having one or two.

So below we added just one or two choices for each  type of kid, scooter, and what will he use it for:

About the safety(a huge subject!), we recommend you buy a scooter helmet and scooter pads for the knees and elbows because you will avoid having more than a headache with any accident your kid may have. And all the scooters that have been added to our list are safe, because otherwise we would not have added them. Rest assure that the Razors are the safest ones, because they are made with high quality materials and they passed all the strict regulations.

  • It is rather old, since it is the first "A" Razor Model crafted in 2000.

CONCLUSION

The Razor A is still being sold after many years of success and people still buy it for their kids because it is the most economical Razor  kick scooter and it is still reliable and made of good quality. However, it has been improved in the new models: either the Razor A2, Razor A3 and Razor A5 Lux, are much better than this.  Razor A5 Lux is, in our opinion, the best one for kids of 8+ age looking for more action, whereas, the Razor A and the A2 and A3 are for younger kids of 5,6,7,8 years old.

NOTE: For us, it is still the best buy for the price. You can't beat a bargain like this! It costs about 30 BUCKS and it is still a great scooter even 15 years after being released.
